Hebrews 2: 13 – 14 (NKJV) For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Too often people decide to “become Christians” but only slowly get past a basic understanding of being out of line with God but forgiven by faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. In order to be a follower of Jesus I have to be GROWING. Our bodies grow when we consume food, digest food and then convert that digested material into energy that our cells use to make us live and move and breath. In the same way, our spiritual food is the Bible but while certainly important, it’s not enough to just know more about the Bible. That would be like eating but not digesting your food. Instead, we’ve got break down the word into useable pieces. But this is still not enough –we’ve got to convert these pieces into energy – and then we MUST use that energy for action. If we don’t, we’re not growing, we’re just existing. So it is that we need to put what we learn from the Bible into practice in our daily lives. Anything less than action is just wasting spiritual calories that God wants us to use to run the race. Our church fellowship exists to help us all put what we learn into real practice so keep connected and keep growing.
