The Holy Spirit, speaking to us through the words of Paul, wants us to develop an eternal perspective in life. Paul’s enthusiasm and joy, even in the midst of facing a trial before an evil Emperor is contagious–and it should be. If we make up our minds to follow Jesus, no matter what the circumstances, we can find this same enthusiasm and joy, even in the midst of our trials in life today.
In fact, when Paul and Silas were beaten and put into prison as a result of their preaching of Jesus (Acts 16), they decided to sing God’s praises while standing in the stocks at midnight. We are told that they rejoiced because they were found worthy to suffer for His name. In the same way, many of us have labored awfully hard for what we see God doing at Fourteen Six–because He has found us worthy to work hard for Him. So, when life gets you down remember what Jesus said–“in this life you will have trouble. But take heart, I have overcome the world.”(John 16:33)
