Matthew 22: 37 – 40 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Our primary purpose in life is to build up the name of God in and through our lives. In fact, this verse answers the question, “what is the most important command of God?” When our main focus in life is loving God with everything we have, we begin to fulfill this purpose. Secondly, Jesus tells us to seek the highest and best interest of the people around us. We are experts at doing what is best for our own interests but when we put as much energy, enthusiasm and effort into the interests of others as we do for ourselves, we begin to fulfill the purposes of God as He wants to reach out to the world through us.
There is no better way to find real direction in life than to focus our efforts on God’s directives. Having the right direction provides the organization and energy we need to carry on and prosper. Without the right direction we can loose energy and hope. Whenever we forget what our primary objective in life needs to be we will lose direction. If you feel like you’re heading nowhere fast, pray that God will show you have to re-dedicate yourself to His purposes for your life.
