Philippians 1:20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
It takes courage to follow Jesus in how I live and act and think and DO, especially when everyone around me takes the easier road. It’ s easy to buy into the political correctness of our time, to compromise my ethics because everyone else is doing it. It takes real courage and real character to give myself utterly and completely to following Jesus in everything I do. But note this: even the apostle Paul, who witnessed the resurrected Jesus, saw incredible miracles and had mighty revelations from God was hopeful that he would in no way be ashamed. Even Paul was not so arrogant as to think he had it all figured out. But also notice that he expected to have the courage he would need – why? Because he had made up his mind that in every way he would be committed to Jesus. It was this choice, this surrendering of will, that led to the expectation and hope we all should have. So, if in any area of my life I could feel ashamed, it’ s time to totally give that area up to God.
