Psalm 40:1 (NKJV) I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry.
I recall a TV commercial where two men sit at a bench with laptop computers. One has the latest and fastest internet card but the other doesn’t. In a few seconds the faster of the two happily gets up finished with his work while the other sits waiting – and two vultures descend on his shoulders. The point it clear – everything is about speed and if you don’t have the fastest answer to your need then the buzzards are at your shoulder. This mindset is everywhere. Even this column is designed to be read in less than a minute – or I might lose your attention to something else. But God is NOT on my time-line nor does He do things according to my calendar. I’ve got to get it into my thinking that God has the entire universe to consider, not just my issue of the day. God does care about my needs, my fears, my gratitude and my grief too but I’ve got to be willing to wait patiently for Him to respond. So often we miss His encouragement in our hearts because we run off to some other stimulus when our prayers are not answered in a McDonald’s minute. It’s time for us to calm our racing minds and wait patiently for the Lord. He will incline to us and He will hear our cry but we have to settle down long enough to hear.
